At Future Academy, we were thrilled to have two of our students be featured in a recent Zaobao news story about GEP and high-ability programmes! Honghao and Jiayi are two of our outstanding primary school students from the GEP, and they have just completed their PSLE in ACS (Primary). We are so proud so see them expressing themselves so fluently and confidently, and for the times we shared in the classroom with them!
Students’ perspectives on GEP
Speaking to Zaobao, they voiced their perspectives about being in the GEP and how they think the upcoming changes would affect future students. Jiayi highlighted how future batches of students would no longer be able to experience the same GEP that they did, while Honghao expressed that it would be a pity for highly talented individuals to miss out on the additional support and resources that they were privileged to enjoy in the current form of GEP.
From this, it also tells us that both students acknowledged what a unique opportunity it was to be in GEP, and we are sure that they benefitted immensely from the programme!
Supporting high-ability students at Future Academy
As students of Future Academy, Honghao and Jiayi have also been in our GEP tuition classes, receiving guidance and support from our expert Primary School Tutors. While GEP students are intelligent and quick at learning, they may still require support in certain subjects, assignments, or exam skills.
In our classes for GEP students, students are able to ask any questions they have, whether it is about specific assignments they get in GEP or the exam syllabus. As our tutors are rich with experience in teaching high-ability students, we are more than used to the many bright and quirky questions that come from GEP students!
Not only do we provide support in areas that these students need help in, we also offer resources and opportunities for these students to expand their potential in the areas they are capable in. That might mean challenging them with more difficult questions beyond the syllabus, or exploring concepts in more depth or breadth.
The future of high-ability classes
Even as GEP will soon transition entirely into school-based high-ability programmes, the need for supporting intellectually-gifted students still stands. Future Academy will still be running a slew of enrichment programmes for high-ability students, including Math Olympiad classes, DSA preparation, and accelerated classes for those who wish to learn ahead and challenge themselves.
So, if you have a gifted child in your care, we are happy to welcome them into our classrooms to learn and develop their talents together!
