Many students across Singapore were anxiously waiting up till just 2 weeks ago, and for a very good reason, too. The O level results were released on 12 January 2022, revealing the fruits of the labour of sec 4 and 5 students in Singapore.
While some found it a cause for celebration, and others felt a wave of disappointment, Singapore as a whole performed on par to its results from previous years.
Key statistics:
- 85.6% of the 2021 cohort achieved five or more passes.
- 23,515 (99.8%) of the candidates have at least one O-Level pass, and 22,716 (96.4%) have at least three passes.
O level results in Singapore
A total of 23,555 candidates took the O levels last year, including private candidates. Of these, 85.6% achieved five or more passes, which was a marginal increase from 2020’s 85.4%. In other words, the class of 2021 has performed the best showing at the O levels in at least three decades.
Out of the 23,555 candidates, 99.8% attained at least pass in 1 subject, and 96.4% achieved at least 3 passes. Overall, the results are on par with Singapore’s performance in previous years – even with the raging pandemic amidst us.
While the ongoing pandemic has put a damper on students’ learning, including more extensive home-based learning and mounting pressures, it seems that our students have been able to maintain strong discipline and motivation to continue to do well.
Future Academy: Our students’ performance
In our tuition centres, too, we have many reasons to be proud of our students! A few of our students scored 7 to 8 A1s, showing off their consistency and all-rounded capabilities! Most of them also scored As and Bs in the subjects they received tuition in, showing great improvement from their poorer grades before.
Some of these students joined us with low confidence in the subject, but they put their trust in our tutors to help them. Although the journey towards O levels was not easy, these students persevered along with the guidance of our tutors.
When we finally saw their wonderful results, we are so happy to celebrate with them!
Beyond O levels
While chatting with our students and their parents about their hard-earned results, we also got excited finding out what their next steps were. Some are very clear about their choice of IB or A levels, while a number will also be going to polytechnics.
