Lower secondary combined science is one of those subjects for which you won’t find tuition easily. Being in the Integrated Programme make things even more difficult. Why?
Due to the nature of combined science, it requires tutors to have knowledge of all three sciences taught in school, namely, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. While some tutors can do double duty – like how some teach Math and Physics, and some teach Chemistry and Biology, not many can teach a little bit of all – which is what lower sec combined science tuition is all about.
Furthermore, the IP track gives schools more flexibility in designing their curriculum. So, schools may choose to order the topics differently, or incorporate different assessment methods in the learning of combined science.
One way to make sure your tutor or potential tutor is on the same page regarding your child’s science curriculum – especially if they are in the IP track – is to discuss the combined science syllabus or scheme of work with the tutor.
MGS Sec 1 Science Syllabus
Our tutors collate the Scheme of Work (including teaching schedule and assessment schedule) from various schools to understand how lessons are structured in schools. From there, we can allocate classes and schedule our teaching plan to match our students’ needs.
As a sample of what an IP school’s science syllabus may look like, we’ve chosen to let you have a glimpse of the MGS Sec 1 Science syllabus. Do note that MGS runs both the O level and IP (IB) tracks – the one shared below is the MGS IP Sec 1 Science syllabus.
Tuition designed for IP and IB students
Due to the specific needs of IP and IB students, we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all tuition class. Instead, we are careful about designing specific classes and grouping students according to their academic track.
At Future Academy, you will be allocated a class that suits your school curriculum and pacing, led by one of our capable tutors. If you have friends from the same school who also want to go for tuition, we can even form a new ‘schools-exclusive’ class for you and your friends!
In class, you will meet with experienced tutors and ex-school teachers who have either been teaching the IP curriculum for many years, or gone through the IP track themselves. These are the people who will be most familiar with what IP students face, and can provide the best advice you need in your IP Combined Science Tuition class.
Conclusion
Despite the widespread phenomenon of top tuition centres in Singapore, it’s not always easy to find the right one for your needs. So, if you’re able to find it, count yourself lucky!
For many students, we’ve ended up being their last tuition centre – meaning that they chose us and stuck with us, so they never needed to change tuition centre until they graduated. And with the results they’ve gotten, we’re sure they didn’t regret it!
