Recently, we were thrilled to be featured in a Zaobao news story, in which our Principal Tutor, Ms. Chen, shared her insights on the GEP and upcoming changes to high-ability programmes! As this was a unique opportunity to share our perspectives and showcase our centre on the news, we were excited beyond measure and so thankful for the invitation.
Understanding the benefits of GEP
The recent announcements about potential GEP changes have sparked much discussion about the programme’s purpose and value. Is GEP still relevant? Does it truly benefit the students who qualify? According to Ms. Chen and other parents interviewed, the answer is a resounding “yes.” Ms. Chen noted that her son, previously disengaged in regular classes, became much more enthusiastic about learning after joining the GEP. The programme’s challenging curriculum catered to his intellectual curiosity, reigniting his interest and engagement in studies.
Nurturing every child’s unique abilities
Ms. Chen emphasised her belief that every child has unique strengths, and it’s the responsibility of parents and educators to nurture these abilities. This philosophy underpins our approach at Future Academy, where we offer enrichment classes that cater to high-ability students, including GEP tuition, Math Olympiad preparation, and DSA classes.
Although there is a common perception that gifted students don’t need tuition, Ms. Chen and our team believe that even academically gifted students can benefit from the guidance and support that structured learning offers. Through high-ability enrichment programmes, these students receive mentorship, resources, and guidance that help them refine their skills and explore their interests more deeply.
Supporting high-ability students at Future Academy
Not only are we honoured to be able to speak about GEP, we consider it our joy to work closely with these bright students in our very own classrooms! Contrary to the popular perception that GEP classes are competitive and stressful, we believe in incorporating fun into our lessons! We also advise parents to enrol their child only if they already display a high aptitude and interest for learning.
Future Academy’s high-ability classes are pitched suitably to the learning level of our students, and includes individual feedback and guidance from tutors who are experienced with teaching high-ability students. Whether it is an upcoming exam or a GEP project assignment, students can approach their tutor for support and advice.
