How We Use Tuition Classes To Help RGS and RI Students Excel

Being in an elite school like Raffles Girls’ School or Raffles Institution might seem like the envy of all parents. However, it is not without its challenges – a highly competitive academic environment, higher demands from teachers, as well as a more independent curriculum are some of the challenges that secondary school students have to grapple with in RGS and RI.

Not every tuition centre in Singapore is equipped to deal with students from Singapore’s top schools. Teachers who are unfamiliar with the demands may not know what students go through in school, the type of assessments and questions they face, and the pressures they face. That’s why we are here to provide that for you!

Achieve your study goals with us

Learn better ways to study and improve your performance with guidance from expert tutors (ex-MOE) through our customised teaching framework.

Teaching from a place of experience

Our tutor team comprises teachers who have taught countless RGS and RI students – some are alumni or ex-teachers in these schools. These reasons put us in a better position than most to understand your struggles and woes! Many of our students struggle with self-directed learning in school, which results in lessons that are less structured. Knowing this, we provide structure in our classes to help students who prefer a more organised way of learning.

Experience also tells us that the level of difficulty and type of questions in RGS and RI school exams are usually tougher. That’s why we aim to expose and equip students with exam techniques that they can readily apply to never-before-seen questions, sharpening their application skills instead of merely content knowledge.

Sticking closely to the RGS and RI syllabus

Those not familiar might not know – but we do! RGS and RI students are Independent schools which run the Integrated Programme. This means that they have more flexibility in designing their own curriculum. Compared to students in the O Level track, students in the IP track may learn more topics or go more in-depth into certain topics, and learn them through various learning method instead of just classroom lectures.

Bearing this in mind, we are intentional about keeping up-to-date with the latest RGS and RI school syllabus. Including our IP Math Tuition classes, our classes for RGS and RI students adhere closely to the school’s scheme of work, including the topics and sequence in which they are taught. This is something you don’t get in tuition classes catered for O Level students.

Our tuition curriculum is designed to follow the school curriculum (example above).

Preparing students for the assessments

We not only follow the schools’ teaching sequence, but we also keep track and support our students through their school assessments. We plan review lessons and mock tests in the lead up to any quizzes or exams in the term, and ensure that our students are clear about what is being tested.

Students who need help can also consult our tutors for advice regarding their school projects like the alternative assessments. It helps that we already know the types of assessments given by your school and have helped many students through the same projects, and we understand what your teachers are looking out for in your projects!

Motivating and inspiring students

In an already competitive school environment, the last thing you want is more stress and more dread when you think about school work. Thankfully, our students have reflected that our classes were effective in helping them gain a newfound appreciation for what they were learning. Many students became more motivated and confident after attending tuition with us, and some even began to enjoy their once-hated subject.

We do these through interactive lessons with plenty of discussions and demos. Through our progress updates, we also encourage students in the areas they have improved, and award rewards to the most outstanding achievers and improvers.

What To Do If Your Child Is Not Doing Well In IP

In life, expectations can be a fuelling force to do better – or it can also hurt. With students in the Integrated Programme widely regarded as ‘smart’, ‘bright’, ‘intelligent’, and ‘talented’, there is a huge pressure for these young teens to live up to expectations. However, what if they don’t? The truth is, not every [...]

What Does Self-Directed Learning Look Like In IP Schools?

Self-directed learning is a buzzword amongst educators, especially with the ‘teach less, learn more’ movement in Singapore schools. But when it comes to self-directed learning, schools running the Integrated Programme arguably place more focus on it. Due to the absence of O Levels, teachers in IP schools have more curriculum time to allow students to [...]
