Recent junior college graduates received news of their GCE A Level exam results on Tuesday, 22 February 2022. The long-awaited news would decide the options available to these students for their next step in education, be it in university or other higher education institutions. As usual, there were tears of happiness, relief, and disappointment – but Singapore’s results have remained on an overall high.
Singapore’s A Level results
Out of the total of 11,070 candidates who sat the A Level examinations in November last year, 93.5% obtained at least three H2 passes and a pass in General Paper or Knowledge and Inquiry.
This means barely a 0.1% drop in passing rate compared to the previous year’s results (which had the best pass rate since 2006) – still remarkably impressive, by any means!
Given the challenges presented by the still-raging pandemic, these results have exemplified Singapore students’ resilience and adaptability, as well as the nation’s strong education practices. These good results are consistent with the country’s O level results and IB results, also released recently this year.
Top performing JCs in Singapore
Based on A Level results, the top-performing JCs in Singapore are still Raffles Institution and Hwa Chong Institution, with mean rank points (RP) at 85 and 85.2 respectively. The two schools also had about 30% of graduating students having a perfect RP of 90.
The two schools are closely followed by Nanyang Junior College and Victoria Junior College, with both having median rank points of 85. Some 60% of NYJC exam takers achieved 85-90 RP, while half of VJC A level students achieved that same band of scores.
Several more JCs had mean RPs hovering around the 81 to 83 mark, including Dunman High School, Eunoia Junior College, National Junior College, and Temasek Junior College.
Note: Due to incomplete information currently available (no common basis of comparison), we are unable to publish a complete ranking of all the schools. An approximated ranking can be found on salary.sg:
Results of Future Academy students
Back at our centre, our tutors were excited to receive news from our (ex-)students about their results! Many of our students shared that they have achieved very high overall scores, with rank points (RP) above 85! We have a few perfect scorers with straight As as well, along with at least two students who achieved commendable results for their H3 subject.
All students have shown improvements or consistently good results in the subject(s) that we tutor them in, with most of them scoring As for those subjects. As a result, our students are all excited about applying to their desired uni courses, some of which include Law, Dentistry, and overseas universities.
We are so proud of all of them and the hard work they have put in, regardless of their results. For those who have achieved great results, we also celebrate with you!
