PSLE Cut-Off Points And Indicative AL Scores (2019-2020)

PSLE Results Day is finally here, and the next few days are when students (and parents) have to submit their secondary school choices. However, this year’s secondary school selection exercise is markedly different, thanks to the recent changes to the PSLE scoring system.

That’s why we’ve decided to help you out with more information on PSLE cut-off points, so that you and your child can make a better decision.

We have listed the 2019 PSLE cut-off points (that is, for students who took PSLE in 2019, and were admitted to Sec 1 in 2020). If you aren’t already clear, the cut-off point of a secondary school is the PSLE T-score of the lowest scoring student(s) the school admits in that academic year.

In the same table, you will find the indicative AL score provided by MOE, based on data of students who took the PSLE in 2020. This way, you can easily compare how T-scores translate to AL scores, observe any trends in the secondary schools you are eyeing, and match them to your child’s PSLE score.

For those who are in primary schools with affiliated secondary schools, we have compiled a separate table below of these schools and their cut-off points for students from the affiliated primary schools.

Other useful information

School mergers

Sharp-eyed readers may have noticed the absence of a number of secondary schools in the list. These schools will be merging with other schools, and will not be accepting new Sec 1s from 2021 onwards. However, you can apply to their merger partners instead.

Merging secondary schools (the school in bold is where the new merged school will be located):

• Bedok Green Secondary School and Ping Yi Secondary School (from Jan 2023)
• Chua Chu Kang Secondary School and Teck Whye Secondary School (from Jan 2023)
• Fajar Secondary School and Greenridge Secondary School (from Jan 2023)
• Fuchun Secondary School and Woodlands Ring Secondary School (from Jan 2024)
• New Town Secondary School and Tanglin Secondary School (from Jan 2023)

Specialised schools

Some schools are catered to specific demographics, and do not usually take part in the Sec 1 posting exercise. If you wish to enrol your child there, you have to apply directly to the school.
